RI president James L. Bomar Jr led a team of volunteers on 29th September 1979, when he put the first drops of the polio vaccine into the mouths of children at a health center in Guadalupe Viejo, Makati, Philippines. Testimonies of appreciation and thanks followed. The ripple effect was far reaching. The fight was on! Very many passionate rotarians and rotaractors through partnerships, friendships and sheer sacrifice have over the years moved steadily towards complete eradication of Polio. The good news is….the end is visible, the end is in sight!
The Rotary Club of Uptown Kampala has joined this spirited fight. The slum of Pajaba (6th Street Industrial Area) swarmed on with activity on 17th October 2025. Rotarians and Village Health Teams went door to door administering the polio vaccine to children up to the age of 6 years. Once again, testimonies of appreciation and thanks followed. This is only one story in a book of many that Rotary in Uganda has undertaken.
The fight is still on. You too can join this movement. You can become part of the story of passionate rotarians, volunteers and partners pushing for zero polio in Uganda and in the world. Donation to the Polio Plus fund (insert the link) and Individual participation in Polio outreaches is open. New partnerships with Rotary Clubs such as ours…..(emoji) are game changing. But most all, you can join a Rotary Club today (emoji)
