The first District Conference for the Rotary Club of Uptown Kampala was a defining moment. It showed us the power of partnership, the importance of showing up, and what it you can a achieve with a shared purpose. We attended as a team of twelve, ready to learn, connect, and represent our club—and the experience went far beyond what we expected.
From the start, the conference created space for us to engage with fellow Rotarians across the district. We exchanged ideas, heard about amazing projects, and drew inspiration from the many ways clubs are creating impact in their communities. Through this shared learning and collective action, we saw that unity is not just an idea, it helps us achieve more, bringing this Rotary year’s theme, “Unite for Good” to life.
It was also a highlight to celebrate District Governor Rtn Geoffrey Kitakule for his outstanding year of leadership and to warmly welcome the newly elected District Governor, Rtn Gerald Obai.
Another high point was being recognised among so many inspiring clubs and people. Our club received several awards: Best Project Supporting Peacebuilding and Conflict Prevention, the Family of Rotary Fellowship Award, and the Public Image Award. We were also proud to see our own Immy receive the Unity President Award. For a newly chartered club attending its first district conference, these recognitions were both humbling and encouraging. They showed us that the work we are doing matters and is making an impact.
It was also a special moment to celebrate District Governor Rtn Geoffrey Kitakule for his outstanding year of leadership and to warmly welcome the newly elected District Governor, Rtn Gerald Obai.
The conference also reminded us that Rotary is about joy as much as it is about service. The evenings were filled with laughter, entertainment, and memorable moments, including dancing with Abraham Luzzi and enjoying kimeza at Riders.
As we look ahead to the new Rotary year, we carry forward key lessons: the power of collaboration for greater impact, the importance of showing up in all the ways our club and communities need us, and the value of staying connected.
If this conference is anything to go by, our journey as a club is just beginning. With the next District Conference set for Gulu, Uptown Kampala is ready to show up!
